Flying Dog Brewery Frederick, MD, USA

In 1990, George Stranahan founded the Flying Dog Brewpub in Aspen, Colorado. From that brewpub to a full-fledged Denver brewery with partner, Richard McIntyre in 1994, and then to the current state-of-the-art brewing facility in Frederick, Maryland, Flying Dog continues to make sense.

The name Flying Dog comes from a oil painting of a dog in Tibet. A beautiful oil painting, big, nice. And the dog was like…well, he had left the ground. The combination of the words ‘Flying Dog’ stuck with George Stranahan when he looked at it in 1983 on a trip to K2, the worlds second highest mountain. The words fit together in some way, and became later the name of the brewery.
