Founded 2002. The name Nøgne Ø means "naked island", a poetic term used by the norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen.

Nøgne Ø has grown from a 300hl production in 2003 to an estimated 2500hl production in 2007. They make more than 20 different styles of ales, and export more than 70 percent of the total production.

Bought by Hansa-Borg Brewery in 2013.

Brewed with 50 percent Munich- and 50 percent wheatmalt, Libertyhops and belgian trappist ale yeast.
